Ignorance or just Indifference?

During the holocaust, many people were fed misleading information about the events that were occurring all around them. Some Poles could see the smoke from the crematoriums from their own homes and didn't even try to step in or try to find out what was actually going on in those camps. Were these people completely ignorant to what was happening in their back yards, or did they just not care because it did not affect their lives? Also with the United States, did our country not step in earlier to help save the innocent victims because they did not know the actual size of the matter? Or did we just want to keep our country out of danger? Either way, about 11 million people were still brutally murdered, either by being burned alive, gassed to death, executed, or starved. These people included Jews, gypsies, the disabled, homosexuals, women, children, Jehovah's Witnesses and so many other victims who will never be forgotten.
(Above is just one of the millions of victims of this tragic incidence of genocide.)
